A bit about how this business came to be…

I’d been working on a variety of rubs for use at home and had spent months tweaking and refining my chicken wing rub before I was willing to share it with the masses. I didn’t think it was out of control or an obsession, but family and friends were starting to cluck after eating chicken wings at my place most weekends!

When I decided to put a team together and compete in our first ever BBQ competition in 2018, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to gather feedback from other teams, mentors, caterers and sponsors on my rub to see if it really was as good as I’d thought. The result was a resounding success with loads of positive feedback, commonly including things like "Where and when can I buy it?" and "Can I have some more wings?"

I was also crowned with the (unofficial) title of "The Wing King" – if you want to know how I cooked them, check out my wing recipe here.

So after loads of R&D into packaging and production requirements, refining the recipe to match that final batch now that I’d changed to a “proper” supplier of ingredients (rather than the supermarket) Johnny Mac’s Crazy Chook was finally launched.
